Alderley Orthodontics for Children

Brother and sister huggingAThe Myobrace System is an approach to straightening a child’s teeth and jaws, but without the need for braces. It uses what is known as myofunctional orthodontic techniques to correct underlying issues in children which cause crooked teeth. These techniques have been practiced by oral health care experts for over 50 years now, as the treatment has proven to be highly effective.

How Does the Myobrace Work?

Myobrace is a simply a series of removable dental appliances, which are similar in appearance to a mouthguard. They are worn for just 1-2 hours each day, along with at night whilst sleeping. Children are still able to eat, drink, and brush their teeth as normal, as the appliance is not fixed.

It is estimated that up to 80% of Australian children are growing up with crooked teeth, something which can affect their craniofacial structures. When these features are poorly developed, it is referred to as craniofacial dystrophy. Myobrace works by addressing these craniofacial dystrophies, aiming to straighten teeth, correct jaw position, and improve functionality of the mouth. As a result, children can achieve optimal facial development, as well as a straighter and more confident smile.

Does Your Child Require Myobrace?

Myobrace is most effective in early childhood while the child’s mouth, jaw, and facial structures are still developing. It is commonly used on children between the ages of five to fifteen and addresses a wide range of orthodontic concerns, such as mouth breathing and swallowing incorrectly (which can negatively impact a child’s development).
